As of 1 July 2012 Platinum Edge only gives 0.5 point for utilities, telecoms, insurance, government bodies (e.g. ATO). This is the bad news.

The good news is that (thw same latter states) Asia Miles, Royal Orchard and Enrich 1:1 ratio is here to stay.

Does this change only apply to new cards? Or did you already have a card and get notified of a change? I haven't received the notice yet, so I'm wondering when it'll be coming...

I am an existing Plat EDGE user and I received the letter yesterday..

:(
I guess that stuff is going on my Visa from now on. I'd be curious to see a list of providers it considers 'telecommunications', if that includes ISPs like iiNet, Amnet, Internode etc.

Internode is now owned by iiNet. iiNet surcharges Amex by 3% I think, so not really worth it for me anyway!

It may have been inevitable considering the merchant fees Amex receives from big providers like that are relatively quite low - I think Telstra pays about 1.65%.

I got the letter today. There was a mini discussion about this in the free upgrade from Gold to Platinum thread too :)

Recived the letter today... Along With another letter offering doubting my credit limit :o

It's been a loooong day... the incompetence of people amaze me every day...

Seems to be standard change across all their cards. I received a similar letter for my professional association gold Amex card.

Had a look online and the site has been updated for Platinum Edge, but not Platinum Reserve or Platinum Charge, so may not be for all cards (yet).

I only signed up with AAMI because of amex bonus points but now insurance only gives 0.5 point. I will use my visa next year.

I'll also move my EnergyAustralia, Optus and possibly Foxtel bills to Visa ASAP.

"my professional association gold Amex card." - Me too - arrived in the post today.

I have not got the letter for my Amex Platinum CC yet so perhaps, hopefully, it is exempt - got to get something for the large annual fee...

Got this on my Ascent as well. A large % of my Amex spend is for the above.
I'm struggling to think of where else I use Amex that I go regularly for 1:1 -- fuel ($250 per month), supermarket ($250)? Bunnings?
I'm thinking of cancelling my Amex now - and use my QF WW Mastercard for everything.

Even with the changes to Plat Edge card I would still keep mine only because the annual fee is cheaper than my last minute/peak hour SYD-ADL round trip flight. Of course if I stop flying domestically ......

I like the EDGE because of the 3 X supermarket and 2 X petrol. Even with the plat charge I can't get these....
