Batu Feringgi Beach, Batu Ferringhi, Pulau Penang 11100, Malaysia
I was fortunate to have a weekend layover here which was really nice. I can’t say I was blown away by Penang but inside this resort was pretty nice. The resort had a makeover and update recently so everything looks really modern and tasteful.
Thumbs Up –
• The buffet is off the charts – realy good, wide selection of foods, great decor.
• Great pools for swimming – which you will need as depending on what time of year it is you won’t be able to swim due to jellyfish. This was a little depressing – looking out on to a picturesque, yet deserted beach with no one swimming
• Nice ‘tropical resort’ style rooms with ratan furniture and dark wood furniture typical for this part of the world. Bathrooms a little dated
• Excellent, yet hugely pricey day spa called “Chi”. Eventually gave in and got a massage there which was nice but not worth the price. Better option is to go across the street to “Zen” and get a massage there. I didn’t get offered any cheeky hand shandy action there which was a nice change from other parts of asia (I am looking at YOU Jakarta). Aparently there is also a Chinese dude who does massages on the beach and is excellent (and cheap)
Thumbs down -
• Located at Batu Feringgi which is a long way from the rest of Penang’s shopping and sightseeing
• Beach – couldn’t swim due to jellyfish. Not really anything to do with the resort but detracted from the atmosphere
