I've heard some rumours that Qantas are holding a press conference at 5pm today. Pure speculation, but 'apparently' it's big news.

One of the Ch9 reporters have tweeted it here...

I'm not sure if it'll be covered live on any of the news channels. Nor what time zone 5pm is in, I'm assuming it's Sydney.

Australian employees of the three unions in questions are now locked out of work effective immediately

Qantas fleet is grounded effective now.

Holy hell.

This grounding specifically excludes:
- Jetstar (JQ)
- Services operated for Qantas by either QantasLink or JetConnect

The grounding is in response to the continued, unreasonable demands of unions from the pilots, engineers and ground staff, and to prevent any nefarious action prior to a workplace lockout of these groups taking effect at 2000hrs AEDST/1200hrs GMT on 31 OCT 2011.

Only passengers flying in the next 24hrs are asked to contact them by telephone.

Passengers should not proceed to the airport.

Passengers currently not in their home port will be provided all the usual support, assistance and accommodation where necessary.

Oh well Joyce can still get his bonuses, as for the workers wanting a pay rise to at least keep ahead of inflation well....

Oh. My. Gosh.

The entire Qantas mainline fleet has been grounded. No more Domestic and International flights will be taking off, effective immediately.

Alan Joyce said Qantas will be grounded for as long as it takes to sort out the union problems.

All flights grounded.
Only option that Qantas feels it can take under Fair Work Act.

Well this will definitely force a government response.

Patricks all over again..where is Chris Corrigan

The government needs to get involved now. Big cost in getting people home on other airlines and hotels.

Excludes Jetconnect, Jetstar and QFLink.

I agree with his action, only think that he just needs to announce he is not accepting his current payrise and then the unions have nothing else to throw at him.

I see this is going to be messy. I hope the gamble works. Break the unions back I say!

Locking out pretty much the entire staff! I trust Alan Joyce will be giving up his massive salary in solidarity with the employees whose income he's just cut off?

Locking out pretty much the entire staff, jesus! I trust Alan Joyce will be giving up his massive salary in solidarity with the employees whose income he's just cut off?

Hahahahaha Joyce couldn't give a stuff about them, and this just adds to the insult of his latest pay raise.
