I'd like to say a big "thank you" to whoever was in my seat 1F on the flight before mine (QF556 SYD to BNE) on Thursday night.

I can't tell you how delighted I was to pull the inflight magazine out, only to open it up to be greeted by the gift of scrunched up tissues that you left for me to find between its pages.

I hope your cold gets better soon, even though my glimpse was brief I could tell that it was a bad one. Luckily I brought my own iPad with me because there was no way I was going to check out the state of anything else that you might have left lurking there in the pocket with the magazine.

I'm just a bit sad that you'll probaby never get to read my words of thanks, as I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't be a member of AFF.

I don't often find rubbish left by previous occupant(s) in airline seat pockets.

All in all, the cleaners do a good job, but yes, disgusting to leave tissues in a magazine. The word that comes to mind is 'congealed.'

+1 re cleaners.

I only ever look at the magazines because I have friends in the publishing industry who have worked on the Qantas magazine and are (quite rightly) very proud of it. Sometimes publications give their readers free giveaways, but I doubt this was the case here.

Hong Kong to Melbourne recently, the pungent odour of vomit hit me, but the passenger next to me hadn't convulsed and retched and we were still on the ground!
So what was the cause?
The scum bag on a previous flight had emptied their lunch, not into a sick bag but into the plastic bag enclosing the blanket, with the blanket still inside.

It was neatly folded so the tear in the bag was hidden and cleaning staff thought it unused...

We had a BA A319 to Belfast last month that was like travelling in a hospital ward. Surrounded by pax sharing their flu/colds (I picked it up).

Far worse than my experience, I feel a little better now.

Sorry to say, but your got EBOLA now.

Oh yuck... I once saw a family of three leave six-sandwiches-worth of chicken and mayonnaise filling (they obviously didn't like it) and the crusts, on the floor. My 'that's ****ing disgusting' response was met by a death stare from the father.

People are absolute pigs. I feel for the FAs sometimes.

One of the few times I flew Jetstar for work...

In Domestic I actually carry a small bottle of disinfectant hand rub for my hands.

I dont think that any surfaces are actually cleaned between flights.

In international because of the LGA rules, I make sure the amount is <100 mls.

In the era of high frequency flights keeping airplanes in the air for as much as possible there is no way surfaces such as tray tables are disinfected.

would the tray tables of LCC carriers like jetstar and tiger have more bugs per square cm than snobby highly cultured areas like QF F?

Not necessarily, equally disgusting behaviour can be found across cabins and airlines.

I always pack Dettol wipes in my hand-carry to wipe down all hard surfaces I may need to touch, such as the seat function buttons and IFE controls.

On long flights I do this too. I'm not sure what my fellow travellers must think, but it bring me small solance that I have attempted disinfect controls and surfaces that have been touched by God knows what.
Howard Hughes had the same problem though unfortunately our similarities end there. I doubt he ever travelled in Y.

Yep, I do draw the occasional odd looks but better to be safe than sorry.

Disgusting.

I don't bother using airline seat pockets anymore other than to occasionally read the magazine.

It's nice to be able to curl up real cosy with the mag. I like looking at all the articles about places I haven't been to, or places I have but they have been updated with new restaurants and stuff and I wonder where I can find an airline that will fly me there.

Unbelievable how some poor lonely misguided people who obvious have little to occupy their minds except with how to sabotage the next person with their filth.

I was at Arlington once, watching the Blue Jays demolish the Rangers. Good game, but of course not too popular with the local crowd - I was with a couple of Canadians and they thought it was just fine.

Anyways, on the way in I bought a big bag of unshelled peanuts to go with the beer and hot dogs and all the other yummy food that gets pushed around the stadium. We drank our beer and ate our peanuts and after a while I said, "Um, what do I do with the shells?" My mate threw his under the seat. "They have cleaners come through after the ballgame," he said. "So you're creating employment."

If it had been a double-header, I might have thought twice, but no, he made perfect sense.

People create a mess, and if it's at night in a cramped seat and you don't want to just throw something on the floor, then anything else goes. It's the job of the airline to provide cleaners, and the job of the cleaners to do their job.

Yes, it'd be nice if the passengers did the cleaning and left their seats as pristine as when they arrived, but what's the point of wishing for a perfect world?

That's a valid point Skyring and I'm trying not to be too broad in my statement, but really, a grotty tissue in a magazine like that or the other example of the hidden vomit in the blanket bag are examples of people being grubs for the sake of being grubs. A few tissues can go in the pocket or bag to dispose of later, and of course the FA's always happy to help. The aircraft cleaners do a fine job but wouldn't think they rummage through magazines looking for tissues.

I can safely assume that hockey stadiums, just like our football stadiums, don't have rubbish bins at the end of the Isle and the grounds have organised cleaning afterwards anyway.

I think you would find there are just as many rich coughes as bogans out there who don't bother washing their hands after wiping the @%$^.
