    Major SYD expansion

Jetstar could probably move all its international flights over alongside virgin. They really only transfer onto domestic networks anyway would work well.

Possible closure of Canberra, Hobart and Mildura staff bases

Those Dash 8 turnarounds they do are tough. In at 8/9pm then out again at 6/7am. Crew probably only get 5/6 hours sleep. I see Virgin do much longer, ie in late but out the next afternoon, or in during the arvo, and out first thing next morning.

Possible closure of Canberra, Hobart and Mildura staff bases

I am sure someone’s bonus will increase because of this decision. Let’s see if any heat from the government here will change the decision slightly, seems like the Hobart base is one making the most noise with a senior Labor minister being a local member. However it seems like the decision has...

    Major SYD expansion

That’s Australia as a whole now. We sold ourselves out years ago.

    Major SYD expansion

Interesting they expect passenger numbers to grow to what Shanghai or LAX is today. All seems a bit overly ambitious for a city of a 5/6 million that will probably only grow by not even 2 million by 2045. Taking into account some cannibalisation from WSI, I’d say passengers numbers will...

    Major SYD expansion

Are these just proposals that will never see the light of day? I recall seeing a plan probably a decade ago that had intentions to join the terminals or something. The airport has done nothing in a long time, this T2 current upgrade is about a decade too late.

    Qantas' New A321XLR

What worries me is they swap out a widebody if they break down and put you on a long haul XLR. Jetstar did this a lot when they got the 321s and they had the 787s breaking down on Bali.

Might inexpensive domestic fares be becoming more common?

These offers are generally tourism targeted (normally QLD) or are thin routes in off peak. I recall Virgin had a partnership with QLD Tourism which was a multi year deal. Sydney to Byron is a common route that is ‘cheap’ as it’s a very thin route during off peak and is normally $45-50 headline...

    Qantas' New A321XLR

I strongly advise anyone braving a Jetstar Bali flight avoid the back rows. A colleague got stuck on the aisle seat a few rows from the back and said it was people just standing over them the whole time wanting to use the loo, the queue was long the whole flight.

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

Well we won’t get a closer look at the balance sheet, some money shuffling can go on now undetected. Also no details around what’s going on with the government cash, and the general state of affairs within the business. Not that Rex’ prior annual reports or asx releases had much detail. Seemed...

Sydney Airport to CBD $60 Flat Rate Taxi Fares

Now is there a loophole for the drivers to exploit it though? They prey on vulnerable and those on corporate accounts I note. We had some employees in Sydney the other month, company had a small bus to pickup people as it was a group, but due to late flights half got told to take a taxi. All...

    Virgin FY25 results

Alan did something like $120m in his 20 years at QF didn’t he? Jane in 5 at Virgin has done $50m plus I assume another $20-30m in wages. At A2 Milk, she did $10m in only 18 months. Likely well over $100m in the last 10 years. Scary stuff.

Korean LCC T'Way Air to rebrand as Trinity Airlines

The interiors are simply Air Asia X so any upgrade is certainly welcome. Korea is very strong at the moment. Last minute fares are sky high, Jetstar is sold out most days well prior to departure. Melbourne to Korea is definitely a missing link at the moment.

    Everyday Rewards Targeted Offers

Not much from Woolworths lately, I’m on my third month of Coles 4 week 10000 offer. Coles have gained about $1000 of spend from me in this time period which I otherwise would have spent at Woolworths.

Jetstar launches Various Routes for CNS/CHC/MCY/AKL/DUD/HZL/SYD/OOL

I’d imagine some of the NZ increases is due to negotiating new deals with some NZ airports who are upping fees considerably, likely part of a wider deal.
