AFF Review: ZIPAIR 787 “Full-Flat” Business Class (NRT-MNL)

It's interesting that JAL chose to go alone with the new ZipAir brand rather than renting/ using the established Jetstar brand (Jetstar Japan is 1/3 JAL, 1/3 Qantas and then some external investors), even if Qantas didn't want ownership (don't think JQi has great returns) And of course the...

    Troubles in Noumea

A good 10min video on the background to the unrest. The 1998 Accord really was a ticking time bomb.

Qantas A380 reliability issues creeping up again?

But that's the nature of the world without a MOM aircraft. The widebodies these days are expensive and designed for long haul, not short. Same reason you've got lots of narrow bodies flying transatlantic these days, also what used to be almost exclusively wide bodies And Qantas did get by a...

Qantas A380 reliability issues creeping up again?

Not really when you consider how order happy his predecessor was. In 2005 Dixon ordered 45 firm 787s, 20 options and 50 purchase rights (up to 115 aircraft) In 2006 Dixon also upped the initial 12 firm 12 option A380 order to 20 firm. From those orders you ended up with 10 788s for JQ, 14...

Kiwi Lawyer attempts to claim tax refund on $0 Jetstar fares

And seemingly suggests he's going to lose (presumably he gets nothing). Qantas previously gave this joker 2x 36,000 points for a different dispute.

    Refurbished Auckland lounge

Auckland Airport shows the 2nd floor layout like this. From memory there are windows on the left side (part of the F lounge). It doesn't like up with what seems to be the roof pattern at AKL.

    Troubles in Noumea

The problem now is you've got multiple days of cancelled flights which means a lot of people wanting to be on the next service out And I suspect most people cancelling or deferring any flights in. Hopefully the various airlines can fly larger aircraft in to quickly clear the backlog.

    Qantas starts international wifi

Also hadn't noticed the following comments in ViaSats Q3 release... Their Q4 results is out in a few days - 21 May US time. On the already launched US satellite. On the European satellite. And then on the Asia satellite - still no launch provider (but rumoured to be SpaceX)

Short turnarounds: Have you flown back from your destination with the same crew?

Couple of times I can think of. Once on HKG-KHI-HKG which was a back of clock flight linking two DONEs, back in the day when Pakistan was very cheap for these. And another on a business trip to BKK that I think was 1D 2N where we had the same crew.

    Solar Panels

Those ~200/kWh limits a month are very low. Plenty of people even with 5kW systems would go over that. Will be interesting how that translates into retail pricing.

Looks like VH-UIK has ended up at SSH in Egypt. Not sure if there is a paint shop there as neither Egypt Air or Air Cairo have Maxes, though Egypt Air has some on order.

Qantas Increases Legroom Charges; Changes to Row 4 selection on most 737 flights

My only real surprise with this change is that it wasn't done years ago. Reality is on an aircraft the constraint is mostly floorspace and that's what you pay for - ergo first and business class are more than economy (plus a few $s for better food and bev). It only really advantaged those...
