Seats.aero - a useful tool for finding Qantas & Velocity reward availability

It's a bit of a work in progress, but it's the best I can find.

Australian Dual Citizens Entering UK after February

Things must be getting serious. Over dinner this evening, my wife mentioned that she probably should renew her lapsed UK passport, "just in case". She has no planned trips to the UK, but has read all the noise in the press. I agreed that she should (it's not expensive, and will get you into...

Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

I'm assuming someone else is paying for this travel.

Book mistake fares at your own risk. I never do. Why put yourself though all that hassle (for a few imaginary $$$)?

I always go for 3A. Has a bit of a view and you're not intimate with the FA or a wall.

Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

Well, VA no longer sends me any email (my wife gets plenty as a Red member). Must have been something I said. Virtually no SC's earned in current year, so will become Gold in a few months time, Not worth anything to me as a UA Plat. Unless VA change their Velocity program substantially, I...

    Qantas Wine latest offering

Spot on. If I wanted to go to Paris, I wouldn't fly Qantas in any class. Not competitive (unless you want to fly nonstop from PER and price isn't important to you).

Have you topped up a UK pension to cover gaps?

Ah yes, that brings back memories. I worked at Longbenton in the late 1960's as a computer programmer with MPNI, and have also had a few dealings with them as a client. It seems that things have only gone downhill since I worked there (and it was far from perfect then).

Article: Things Jetstar Does & Doesn’t Do Well

Perhaps time to reconsider Scoot Plus. Cheaper by far and similar seat. And they're flying the 788 to SYD with only 3 rows of Plus (I've booked one for May). Just pay for your F&B if you want more than the basic offering. OK, no lounge access, but that's why you have PP, and the PP lounges at...

Article: Platinum With One Airline Vs Gold With Two: Which Is Better?

I'm not sure how you have come to that conclusion. I don't think I am paying more, but perhaps you could explain why I am.

Article: Platinum With One Airline Vs Gold With Two: Which Is Better?

Well, for me, under the current circumstances, Platinum with QF would be far superior to Gold with both. Apart from the fact that VA have made attaining Platinum far too expensive for what is offered, my lifetime Star Gold with UA provides lounge access for VA in any case. I do think VA have...

    Qantas Wine latest offering

This doesn't seem like a bad offering at $1.77c per point for PCP members, Don't know about the wine, but it will (mostly) be drinkable. https://wine.qantas.com/p/mixed-brands-vip-red-dozen-xii/MIX2510054

Australian Dual Citizens Entering UK after February

Yes, so have I. You just never know when you might need them, and it's also not an expensive or difficult process. However, we also ensured that our kids born in Australia would have dual nationality, but they couldn't care less about it (they're not teenagers either, given that we're of...

    VA's Audience Demographic

Sounds like a normal day for ADL, but still pretty weak when compared with QF. And, in the ADL VA lounge, there is no self-pour wine, and the catering staff pour very small measures. Is this, I wonder, because they are wary of the FIFO mob? Either way, it's pretty poor.

The definitive thread on Qantas IT gripes

Well, I did get a phone call from the Philippines around noon to let me know the problem had been fixed. I was already back online by then, but a good follow up, I think (for Qantas at least).

The definitive thread on Qantas IT gripes

Same problem here. Just rang Qantas and they were unaware of any issue, but would check and maybe get back to me within 3-5 business days (!).

Article: Things Jetstar Does & Doesn’t Do Well

Jetstar AU-SIN. NO. Just fly Scoot or others, similar product, but more likely to get you there. Jetstar scams its pax when selling MEL-SIN-MEL. It seems that thet get cancelled more often than they fly (poetic licence).

    VA's Audience Demographic

I have no idea what the current VA management thinks it is, but here's my take. - small business - travellers who don't want to pay for Qantas, and who'd not rather not drive or take the train or a bus. Is this sustainable, I wonder? Depends on pricing, I guess, but with the frequent flyers...
