    Birds of a feather

This young daredevil come into my study, which meant a path via the back door and through the kitchen and a bit of the hallway. The dog startled it across the hall into the lounge and pounced on it, briefly, without causing any harm. It flew around a bit before getting caught up in the...

    Woolworths gift card thread

Sure or look on the menu or at the till or wherever it is displayed. Once you have it, making sure it's the right one for these GCs if they're one of those pesky mobs that have different rates for various payment types, go ahead and do the math based on the remainder on card to calculate how...

Best Australian debit card for overseas cash withdrawals?

A pox foisted upon us by lousy greedy banks.

    Woolworths gift card thread

Yes but you need to know what the card surcharge is for that restaurant, then do a calc based on the residual amount on the GC. Not fun to do standing at the till, even if they don't mind splitting payments. Hence it could be said that the last few dollars can be a bit hard to use. I expect...

and now we're again no closer solving @RealtimeY's issue of "the last few dollars can be a bit hard to use". 🤪

    Scams like these

That's interesting @Brissy1. I received a physical postcard here in the mail the other day regarding some class action against Amazon on the basis that my Prime account is a US registered one (which it is but I didn't realise? and I only use it when in the US, last time 3 years ago). It said I...

    Europe car hire.

You're probably correct, based on my experiences in Australia, but for international I would check the rental agreement to be sure. I had issues with a pick up >59mins after the scheduled time so they don't always apply reason/logic in the way you'd think.

    Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

Is there a penalty or fine for airlines not providing re-routing in accordance with 261? Wondering if there's a point at which it becomes cheaper to to just cop the fine/penalty than re-route.

    What has travel taught you?

It's taught me that the world is an incredible amazing place and Australia is the most beautiful and least discriminatory/racist country in it.

    Scams like these

Its so unlikely that our workplace runs regular training and also does tests to see if anyone falls for clicking on links. I once clicked on a link that was a pdf file. All hell broke loose and I was bombarded with 000's of emails in 3 days. Attempts were made to hack my Velocity account.

United to remove passengers who use their phones and iPads on flights without headphones

As usual, the Simpsons will have predicted it. Here's what the court scene possibly may definitely look like. If it gets that far, and you replace the opening line with "The Hosties asked me to use headphones while watching a video with sound":

Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

Why not just quote a cash price too?

    Scams like these

I got this while expecting a legit AP delivery, and if not for the phone number and vague threat at the end, I might have clicked. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that this random scammer randomly targetted me who just happened to be expecting an AP delivery.

It makes a specific reference to "listening".

You'd think someone would have queried United as to how they're going to enforce the contract condition after take off.

    Retirement Planning & Experiences

As per @Quickstatus post, aged care is often overlooked in retirement planning. Here's an excellent article explaining the many costs. Not sure if it's paywalled or not, or if there's an Aged Care thread here that this could also be posted in)...

    Australian Cricket Season 2025-26 (Ashes)

Thanks @serfty. Like @Pushka, I have a theoretical better use for QF points but the reality of using them as such doesn't match. I won't use them in this way though.

    Retirement Planning & Experiences

Interesting @JohnK that you plan to hold IPs in retirement. I think it's relative to the value of the IP at retirement, but I plan to (strategically) sell and dump the proceeds into a pension fund as the annual effort/costs of the IP and low-ish rent can't compete with a chunk of cash earning...
