Having been QF Platinum for a number of years, I am now a lowly LTG, which once I got over myself isn't so bad, I am a status free zone when it comes to Hotels and if I'm honest, I rather like to less stressful existence now that I'm no longer chasing status. :)
In my experience , most food options are fine in Bali, inside and outside of the hotel/resort. however water is always something to be careful with. bottled water only , that said I find beer (unopened or opened in front of me a safe bet)
I guess that over the years we have seen many novices expecting a great deal more from their infrequent flying and accumulation of points than the reality dictates. and I guess this will continue on into the future.
I remember seeing (and speaking) to Evonne Cawley (Goolagong) in the J lounge in BNE once and my wife saw and spoke with Hazel Hawke, neither seemed to be bothered about being in a J Lounge Vs CL
I wasn't suggesting Qantas be elitist, I was referring to the lounges, if you extrapolate your point then the pointy end seats should be the same price and be available on a first in best dressed basis. or get rid of premium (elite) seating and status altogether, frankly I enjoy the exclusivity...
