I went to buy $2,000 worth of Apple Gift cards, and the overzealous fraud detection declined the transaction and locked me out of card and online banking.

Took three people to unlock it all, and the last gentleman i spoke to said he put an override on it so it shouldn't happen again. I guess I'll find out tonight!

So to anyone with a NAB credit card looking to buy lots of gift cards, make sure you call ahead first to avoid headaches.

Was this a new account?

Did you try and buy online or in store?

This is not the first time I've heard of this happening.

I've never had problems buying up to $2000 of gift cards at a time. My advice to people wanting to spend lots on gift cards is to start small. Buy $100 or $200 worth of gift cards so the bank or CC provider knows that you are a legitimate purchaser of gift cards. Then when you buy larger amounts, you won't be flagged because you'll already have a history.

This is just speculation, but it seems to have worked for me.
