Emirtaes starts flying to AKL in August. Their normal FF points requirement is 25K (as against 30K for QF and AN). Just for August, you can fly for 12.5K.

If you had collected any odd points on Skwards (Emirates or Sri Lankan), it is the time use.

(My son has 14K but unfortunately, I can not travel in August to NZ).

There is an alternative to Sywards in being able to collect points. In the past two Augusts I have had to fly to Nairobi via Sinagapore and Dubai. After NBO-DXB I then turned left and went to the UK and Ireland. Our client was paying and the deal was that all flights were business class. This meant that in each year I was going to accrue over 33,000 points, but who with? I didn't really want to join the Emirates FF (as I think they only have affiliations with Sri Lanka and the head hunting gouging spitting biting airline) and so found out that you could join United and earn points for Star Alliance. This has been successful as I was able to spend 50,000 points earlier this year for my wife to go to Bangkok on Thai Airways. Provided United don't get as far as Chapter 11 in their book this could be a worthwhile option.
