Hi everyone,

I need to go to China for work in December and it seems the only options are the once-weekly flights: SYD-PVG with China Eastern and MEL-CAN with China Southern.

Does anyone have any information about how many passengers these airlines have been able to carry back into Australia under the new caps?

I would have thought Singapore or Cathay would have been options but SIA doesn’t allow any transit passengers to/from China and Cathay doesn’t allow any from China.

Any thoughts or tips greatly appreciated.

China seems to have imposed rules that prohibit any transit passenger. The no transit PAX rule seems to apply everywhere - including NZ.

It is a pick the direct flight if the price is ok - or look at having a 7 day holiday in Singapore and you are then no longer a transit PAX via Singapore.

Thanks - yes, I ended finding an expensive China Eastern flight direct from Sydney. Now to navigate the quarantine requirements between cities and provinces 😱
