We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions regarding what Airport Lounges are available at specific airports when travelling on specific airlines. While one can be assured of access at the airline lounge when travelling on that airline (provided you have Lounge membership), thing start to get complex when travelling on a codeshare or partner airline.

I note the one world lounge access page has been revamped.
Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights: First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 06:00am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa).

Lounge access will be determined on the international long haul ticketed flight (either First of Business Class) regardless of the ticketed class of travel on the international short haul or domestic flight. You must be prepared to show your boarding pass or itinerary showing travel in First or Business class on the international long haul flight, in order to access the lounge before your international short haul or domestic flight.

I can’t seem to pick up any change in the revamp? Those seem to be the regular connecting times and conditions?

I have QF7 in a few weeks, with a four hour layover before connecting on AA to Austin. My understanding is that I have to clear customs, but my luggage will be checked through. Once I clear customs, what are my lounge options after I re-clear security? Are international / Terminal D lounges accessible with a domestic ticket?

I am Qantas Gold and have AMEX Platinum / PP.
Clear immigration, collect bag and drop off at the transfer desk. After clearing security, you should be free to move airside between terminals but keep an eye on your departure gate, AA can and do switch gates and terminals! QF SG should get you into the AA FS lounge but plan to move to something closer to your departure gate. Can’t comment on 3rd party lounges.

I would have thought the AA flagship lounge would be the best offering?

I've flown a similar route before as Qantas Gold (OneWorld Sapphire) - QF7 to DFW then an AA flight to PIT. The process is you clear immigration at DFW, collect your bags,re-check your bags and clear security. You will have access to the American Airlines Flagship Lounge as it is a business class lounge accessible to OneWorld Sapphires and Emeralds. There is also a Centurion lounge you can access (in Terminal D). I haven't been to that one, but it could also be good. The Flagship lounge has a decent buffet, champagne, showers, and some good seating options. Not the best lounge I've been to, but for a US lounge it's not bad. For AmEx lounges, please use the AmEx lounge finder to see what lounges you have access to as a Platinum cardholder. Note: to access any Delta SkyClub lounges, you must posses a ticket on Delta Airlines in any class of service other than Basic Economy.

A couple notes on travelling in the US as a OneWorld Sapphire (Qantas Gold):
  • You can access any American Airlines Flagship or Admirals lounge on departure, connection or even arrival at your final destination when flying on a OneWorld carrier like American or Alaska Airlines
  • You can access any Alaska Airlnes lounge on departure when travelling with American, Alaskan or another OneWorld airline
  • You may read somewhere that you cannot access American or Alaska lounges when travelling domestically. However, that restriction only applies to people who hold elite status on American or Alaskan (likely to prevent overcrowding of lounges). If you hold elite status on another OneWorld carrier like Qantas this restriction doesn't apply.
  • Centurion lounges can be a solid option in the US when available. One important thing to note is that you are allowed up to 2 guests. Note: you may see signs in the US saying guests cost extra, however, that restriction only applies to US issued Platinum cards, so your Australian Platinum card gets you guests.
  • At most US airports there is no distinction between international and domestic flights, with passengers being able to go between the international and domestic gates freely. Indeed, I have seen a flight to Athens, Greece be right beside a gate for a flight to Cleveland. Some (but not all) US airports also allow you to go between terminals without re-clearing security. LAX is one major example of that.
Oh and one more surprise for you is in store! Since you hold a Platinum AmEx card you can access the Plaza Premium arrivals lounge in Sydney. This lounge is located in the arrivals hall, just hang a left and go all the way down to the Aerotel. Show your Platinum card and you'll get a shower and access to the lounge which consists of a small breakfast spread. Not the greatest lounge in the world, but let me tell you, having a shower after a long TPAC like that can make a great start to the day!

No to do with overcrowding, but rather that most US airlines offer paid memberships, like Qantas Club. Members of the respective airline club can enter, but status through the airline doesn’t get you in. More likely to preserve revenue rather than overcrowding. Club memberships are discounted based on your status level however.

and has been that way for as long as I can remember (at least for AA, AS and UA plus previous US Air/Airways, TWA, NW).

A friend wasn’t able to use a pass for the SYD T1 J Lounge during the recent school hols. So expect similar blackout periods.

Singapore wasn't on the recent Easter (March/April 2024) Blackout list that included:
Sydney Domestic (both Qantas Club & Business Lounge), Sydney International (both business and first), Melbourne Domestic (both Qantas Club & Business Lounge), Hobart Qantas Club, London International Lounge and Auckland (both business and first)

Depends in the airline, location and if they are a partner of QF - eg EK or MU - even then the rules can be complex.

In general probably not, but there are some situations where it may be possible.

Really needs more detail to answer imo.

Would i have lounge access for EK lounge at PVG on a QF flight?

(Business class, WP) Also i assume its EK business class not first if there's access.
