Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre (Chinatown) opening April 2024

I looked at this, and even as a solo traveller, I looked at the rooms and rejected this hotel; however, the location seems quite reasonable.

I booked a night at the Grand Mercure Roxy. While being dated, I was serviced by efficient staff and had the fastest lifts in Singapore.
I used to stay there a few years ago. The corp rate gave Exec floor access but it was sort no where location (taxi everywhere).

Is there a metro line nearby now?

I had originally booked at the Icon but changed to the Sultan Hotel after reviews started coming in. It is in a heritage building about 100 metres from the Sultan Mosque. We have only been in a few minutes so am not sure about neighbouring room noise.

However we can faintly hear the call to prayer - no drama. And can also hear chickens crowing. The chicken noises are a nice extra to a Singapore hotel.

Thanks for sharing this information. There's a metro line about to open in front of the Grand Mercure - Marine Parade, I believe the name is. It's open to locals to walk around; it's been commissioned and will officially accept trains early June 24.

Cool. I thought I saw a new line on a map a few months ago. I must take an another look because that could make for a handy stop over hotel. It’s closer to the airport than the city.

Wow I too changed my Mercure Icon booking, so glad I did. I am staying at the Novotel on Kitchen near little India. Will be there in 8 days time.
