Hey All,

Am currently looking at booking a very quick getaway to Cairo for September. As I will be in BKK, I will be using Thai points to get to Cairo, though it seems I can only get to Dubai, and will then need to buy a one way fare to CAI.

On general searches the above airlines pop up. Kuwait and MEA also came up, though flying through Tehran does not appeal to me.

Does anyone have any experience with / opinions on the above airlines? I am considering getting a bus from DXB to AUH and then going with Etihad instead (only if I have to). As always *A or OW points always good ;)

Thoughts?

Cheers...

Royal Jordanian is 1W I believe, and occasionally have some good fares similar to the CX ones from BKK and the like. I haven’t heard anything bad about them, but haven’t travelled with any Middle-Eastern carriers, or through the region.

Additionally, Qatar has lots of nice adverts on TV :p

I have used Etihad from AUH to CAI and found them to be very good. Also you will earn Velocity points and as DJ Gold be able to use the Etihad lounges.

Last year I had to make my way from BKK to BCN and somehow I ended up with Egypt Air from BKK-CAI-BCN ;) It was the cheapest route (~$500) from BKK and I even snuck in a few days touring Cairo. As it was economy I didn't expect much, there was no personal IFE on my two flights. Food was acceptable for Y standard. Would I fly them again? Yeah if the price is right and the routes matched what I wanted to do.

In March I completed a MEL-DOH-BRU return trip in Y on Qatar Airways. I thought their service was excellent, the transit at DOH was very quick, and I found their planes to be very modern and comfortable (A332 and 777LR). In addition to a very cheap fare, I also gained 20k+ FF points onto my UA MP which were promptly credited to my account within a day or so of each flight. I wouldn't hesitate to fly them again!!

Ive flown with Etihad who are brilliant, haven't flown with the others but have had many clients give positive feedback on Qatar.

Thank you kindly everyone. It is much appreciated. I am less hesitant now, and will go with convenient scheduling. :)

First, I have a little matter of cashing in some points to get to Cambodia for a weekend.... hmmmm..... I just can't help myself :(
