Just got a QBR survey on Sustainable Aviation Fuel and carbon Offset products. They got both barrels from me. QF have so much low hanging fruit in their decarbonisation journey - electrifying ground ops, solar on terminals and maintenance facilities, electrifying regional flights, supporting electrification of ground transport to airports.
SAF is a boondoggle and offsets have to be very high quality and managed very carefully to generate meaningful additional carbon reductions. Off course they want us to buy this window dressing to receive points, status and a warm and fuzzy feeling. Long haul travel is very important, decarbonisation is essential and really really hard; QF needs to take this seriously rather than see it as yet another points monetisation opportunity.
