It only opened in 2004 I believe?
The Gravity Wave Detector itself was operating by at least 1993. A couple of us were attending some night lectures by the originator of this facility Professor David Blair of UWA in the late 1990's and he organised a trip for the group to see it. It was a much smaller operation in those days.

 
Interesting. I went off Corporate - Gravity Discovery Centre which says it opened in 2004. Go figure.
I think a lot more 'tourist' infrastructure was built after our visit. When I went the hunt for gravity waves was the main reason for the existence of this site.
