Jetstar Jibes and Jubilations

Qantas low-cost sibling Jetstar suffers from a serious case of second-child syndrome. Jetstar is expected to perform at the same level as Qantas. It is compared to Qantas in matters of service, quality and punctuality. It is even

Why must headphones must be removed on descent

This week one of our members heard a somewhat puzzling in-flight announcement from the cabin crew I really believe this is a first for me in 200+ flights over the past 5 years, but on my ARM-SYD QFlink today the announcement was now is the time to turn off all electronic devices and remove headphones These days, many passengers wear noise cancelling headphones (which use more

Behind the smoked glass door marked Private

Have you every wondered what behind that smoked glass door marked private between gates 23 and 24 at the Qantas terminal in Brisbane? Perhaps you noticed the odd person turn right instead of left at the escalators in Sydney and Melbourne. Chances are they are heading for the very exclusive Chairmans Lounge. The Chairmans Lounge membership has no set criteria for joining. You could fly every day for a year and still not get an invite. Membership is said to consist of more

Frequent Flyer implications of flight delays and cancellations

Sometimes things dont always go according to plan. While many a flight leaves or arrives on time, others have delays or cancellations that can be inconvenient or even possibly cost you your frequent flyer status? Cancellations are often the easiest to deal with. The responsible carrier will normally look after you until you get to the destination. That might involve an extra days travel, accommodation at the airlines expense and even different carriers to get you there. That may more

Rydges Sydney Airport Hotel Evacuate Evacuate!

This week we look at one of the common experiences travellers undertake, the need to stay at an Airport Hotel, specifically the new Rydges at Sydney Airport. With Sydney having so many morning flights overseas, its quite common to fly to Sydney the day before and spend the night there before departing on the international leg. If your flying overseas on a Monday, peak morning flights can be more expensive or it could well be a case of not having an option to take a same day more

AFF Flight Tracker: OATEK's Travels

This week we highlight OATEK's travels as tracked on AFF Flight Tacker.  OATEK writes "I began travelling by air about 55 years ago, and didn't think about keeping a record until very recent times. So my actual trips including air charter flights would probably be twice or even three times what I have in AFF Flight Tracker. However, as I didn't travel overseas until 1987 the early flights were largely shorter inter- and intra-state trips so not many miles flown when compared to the international flights (which are all covered here in AFF Flight Tracker). My travel over the years is probably split fairly evenly between business and leisure, although sadly leisure is starting to pull away from the business flying. In recent years when I have traveled to Europe a good number of times I have become far more interested in the flights and the aircraft. I have a heavy self-imposed schedule over the next few years to get to many overseas locations, and its great to be able to see where I have been, when, and on what aircraft, all in one place. I am particularly pleased to have my Nancy Bird flight recorded, and hope to complete my collection of QF A380s over the coming years."
