Post Travel Expo regret has hit one member hard this week. Our member spontaneously purchased an economy flight from Sydney to LA with friends and is now regretting the decision. The prospect of 14 hours in economy

Qantas "enhances" Priority Boarding, more changes in 2015?

One of the better perks for many of our members is priority boarding. A benefit usually on offer to the top tiers of frequent flyers, it allows them to board at anytime in a dedicated queue without joining what is often a long line. While Virgin have offered this benefit to their domestic Platinum and Gold travellers for some time, Qantas have only provided it to their Platinum members. Last week, that changed, with Gold Members now also able to use the queues. The announcement of more members being able to enjoy the privilege was met with mixed reactions from our members. Not sure what benefit there is to Qantas Platinum anymore. Sure First Class lounge is nice, but you’d  more

Melbourne to Phuket – Points or Pay?

If you are sitting on a stack of points, it can be pretty tempting to use them. Sometimes it makes sense, while other times, it seems the airlines can make it hard to use them. So when do you pull the trigger? This week, one of our members poses such a dilemma.  Hi guys, really need some help as I am going crazy!! Trying to book a flight to Phuket July next year, ideally business class and I just cant work out what to do. I am a Velocity member with 300,000 points and would prefer to fly Virgin but as they only operate 737s there they are ruled out. Also very frustrated with Virgin as it will be another $6-7k in airfares that will end up going to a rival because they don’t offer an adequate  more

Don’t you know who I am? Over Nuts!?

The famous (and sometimes the not so famous) are known for the occasional dummy spit. That moment when they feel like someone clearly does not know who they are. For a purser onboard Korean Air this week, such a moment resulted from a career-limiting move they made onboard a departing flight. And it was all over the way the nuts were served to a passenger, arriving in a packet rather than a bowl. Sadly for them, that passenger happened to be the daughter of the airlines CEO. Some of our members were a bit taken back by the events. Quite an unbelievable story. I don’t know if this exec is a perfectionist or nut job? Pardon the pun. Such an act was  more

The delights of Thailand, Burma and Singapore

This week our trip report starts with what used to be a common experience – the joy of travelling First Class to Asia. Due to the withdrawal of Qantas First Class service to Asia, it is now a little harder to travel in the lap of luxury using points. While Singapore Airlines do have some services with a First Class cabin, redemption seats can be hard to find. Fortunately, Thai Airways also offers services from Sydney, and it seems they are picking up some of the Qantas slack. Nice Rimowa amenities case at seat, jacket taken immediately I arrived at seat and a glass of champagne in my hand a couple of minutes later. PJs handed out soon after. Only 6/10 seats in First occupied more
