Really Cheap “Mistake” Fares

Over the years our members have proved to be an eagle eyed bunch, with many mistake fares soon coming to light on the forum for others to take advantage. Who can forget the Qantas east coast to Port Headland fares for $35 or the Nadi special in Business for just over a $1,300 that saw members earning a bucket load of Status Credits? A little over a year ago one of our members we keen more

When a plane goes missing!

Being a frequent flyer site, many our members pay close attention when aviation items hit the news. The news of a Malaysian B777 going missing certainly got our members talking. 777-200 enroute to Beijing lost contact with ground a few hours into the flight. With the world getting a smaller place, many were left wondering how you can lose a plane in this era of technology. After all, if we lose our phone, we just turn on the computer and it will tell us where it is. Technology also helps the more

Involuntary rebooked from Qantas to Jetstar – your choices

Last week we looked at changes and cancellations and their effect on your frequent flyer program, but what happens when an airline offers a change from a full service carrier to a low cost one Hi everyone, a family member was booked on QF 77/78 in late July. The route was recently axed by Qantas, so we were expecting something to change – change just came through today and she was put onto Jetstar Asia for PER-SIN-PER.Is this normal procedure? I don’t think Jetstar Asia is equivalent to ‘full-service’ Qantas! Just prior to the announcement of the change, there was an more

The Captains Table – it’s a cracker!

This week our featured trip report involves a mode of travel that is increasingly becoming popular with Australians, in fact you could say many of us are all at sea Well, I’ve been inspired by the recent Trip Reports and figured I should organise my own..So, where am I going? Well, there is two of us AFF’rs going, and yes, we are both Old Dames. Travelling on our own – sans Husbands. We are venturing on a cruise on the Queen Mary 2, up the Eastern Coast of Australia, up to Malaysia, Shanghai, and then Hong Kong. You would count yourself very lucky to be able to live on a more

AFF Flight Tracker: turtlemichael's Travels

This week we highlight turtlemichael's travels as tracked on AFF Flight Tacker.  turtlemichael writes "I have really only kept records of my flying for 10 years which roughly coincides with me joining AFF. I have been flying a lot longer. I recall my first flight was as a schoolboy on a day trip outing from Melbourne to Canberra I think on a Viscount. I recently took a deep breath and, over a few days, entered the detail since 2005 on to Flight Tracker. I regard it as a bit of fun and it allows me to tell friends that I have been through CNS or SYD x million times, figuratively speaking. All my flying is now self-funded and for leisure so I am able to look at the map and reflect that it has overwhelming been fun and worthwhile. I'm currently in South Africa for the first time so have been able to add the last continent, excluding Antarctica, to the record."
