Qantas Frequent Flyer Points - Transfer and be damned?

Many of our members use the Qantas Frequent Flyer Family transfer facility to gift points to loved family members. Unlike many of the US airlines, there is no charge to do this. And with recent changes to the program, it can be very flexible with up to 4 transfers per account. But also be alert, there are traps for the unwary and you could see your points vanish! One of our new members more

A return to the Kangaroo Route for Qantas?

Since Qantas moved its stopover port for Heathrow services to Dubai in April last year, speculation has been rife as to its success and future. I thought QF was picking up a lot of EK South Asia traffic on DXB-LHR with QF1/2 and 9/10 DXB-LHR-DXB, but have seen some posts suggesting that loads are not as good as expected. So I thought it would be interesting to create a poll and discussion to see what other posters think QF could or should do with QF9. Since the Dubai change, there more

Saving big dollars flying Business to Los Angeles

This month sees one of our members tempted down the path some have taken before. In the spirit of "Why fly direct when you can connect", they are looking at flying Business to America via Fiji with Fiji Airways. What's on offer? If you are a couple, a saving of $5,000 to start with! Airlines price fares based on their point of origin. That means often for the same city pair, it can be considerably cheaper from one end than from the other. This is the case with Fiji. A fare from Australia priced more

Beware the Romans (selling Hand Bags)!

Encounters can often provide travellers with memories they will keep forever. But some may leave you with the feeling of unease - missed opportunity or money saved? One of our members recently had such an experience. Ever have one of those days where you wish you could go back and have again? We were walking down the street to the bus to head into Rome, and a car pulled up to ask directions. He was looking for the Vatican. Easy directions - 'just keep left'. We got to more

AFF Flight Tracker: eastwest101's Travels

This week we highlight eastwest101's travels as tracked on AFF Flight Tacker.  eastwest101 writes "From 2005 to 2012 I had kept a big incomplete csv file and then imported into Tripit to record my travels. So the tidying up process had been mostly done when I imported into AFF Flight Tracker. Having grown up as a kid flying standby on jumpseats in East West and then Ansett aircraft I got to see a lot of things that kids could only dream about now but after getting a job in the resources industry I found myself flying for work quite a lot, and with a job and family responsibilities probably don't fly as much as some here but still enjoy it. Most popular destination is split between a few mine sites and most common aircraft the SA227 Metro 23 which is a punishing aircraft that I am sure many do not miss! Most of the overseas travel you can see have been holidays and a little work in some interesting places."
