AFF is not just about flying!

The Australian Frequent Flyer Community is not just about flying, it's also about sharing ideas and experiences. One of the best experiences our members often report is as a result of meeting other like minded souls. In fact, one of our popular, helpful, and very social member - samh004 - has volunteered to take on the role of AFF Social Ambassador, co-ordinating some of the events. more

Ask the Pilot - answers to "not so silly" questions

Whether you fly frequently or once in a blue moon, sometimes there are things happening that you would like to know more about, or simply know why? Why do I hear a dog barking on my Jetstar A320 flights as we taxi out? I had a night flight last night and noticed the captain during the night put on the landing lights for short periods as we were cruising, why would they do that? On an Airbus A330, why do the Exit lights only come on near the ground and what activates them? more

Is it safe to travel to Bangkok during the lockdown?

With news this week of the lockdown resulting in a state of emergency being declared in Bangkok, one of our members asks: am a little concerned about what Bangkok will be like on the 8th of March.... Some options would be to extend the time in Phuket, and then fly straight to Bangkok to hop on the Qantas flight (avoid going into the city) or stay with the itinerary. The first port of call for any Australian Traveller is usually the Smart Traveller Website as one of our readers more

Having a ball with the locals in the "Land of the Free and Plenty/Paranoid"

A two month trip takes a lot of planning to get the details right, not to mention expense, patience and more than a couple of plane trips in a lot of cases. 2014 saw our member Erkpod head off on what some might say is the trip of a lifetime, experiencing a convention in Las Vegas and a Cruise from Florida. Often I read here about the trips themselves but not always about the preparation & planning into a trip. Here is my story about my upcoming trip to America. As the poem goes more

AFF Flight Tracker: Scarlett's Travels

This week we highlight Scarlett's travels as tracked on AFF Flight Tacker.  Scarlett writes "I added my flight data, which I had collected over the last 20 years, to the AFF Flight Tracker as I wanted to see what the resultant map would look like and to remind me that there's still plenty more to see out there in the world. I've been pretty lucky to have lived in every State and Territory and spent a few years in the UK, so that's made my travel options fairly open and I've taken advantage of it. The stats in the Flight Tracker remind me of the great holidays, including the obligatory AFF visit to SJU. Unfortunately it also reminds me of the BIS miles necessary for work on my top few 'routes flown'."

It's free for all AFF members. You can read all about it HERE.  If you would like your AFF Flight Tracker travels to be featured in The Gazette, please email our editor.
