Last weekend, many AFF members flew to Sydney for the 13th annual AFF weekend gathering. These weekends are a great way to meet other members and are always lots of fun. This year’s event was no exception!
After Friday night drinks at the Australian Wine Emporium, the weekend began with a tour of the iconic Sydney Opera House. While learning about the history of the building, we were treated to some stunning views of Sydney Harbour.
The guest speaker at Saturday night’s Thai dinner was Ernst Krolke, who was last year inducted into the Australian Aviation Hall of Fame. Ernst spoke about his time at Qantas and his role in implementing the system of airport slots in Australia that is still used today. Slots are used to spread out the times that airlines are allowed to take-off and land at congested airports.
The weekend’s activities concluded with a trip to the HARS (Historical Aircraft Restoration Society) Museum in Wollongong. This museum is famously home to Qantas’ first Boeing 747-400, VH-OJA, but also has an impressive collection of other aircraft on display.
Thank you to everyone who came along to AFF#13 in Sydney, and congratulations to those members who won prizes over the weekend including Frequent Flyer Solutions Business Class membership, wine, amenity kits and collectible Qantas merchandise!
These events would not be a success without the organisers who volunteer their time. Thanks to support and everyone else involved in planning this great weekend!
We’ll announce details of next year’s annual gathering in the coming months. In the meantime, why not come along to one of AFF’s many other social events and meetups?
