If you have a Coles Rewards MasterCard credit card, now is your last chance to earn Flybuys points for ATO tax payments. From 5 March 2018, the card will no longer award points for “government related transactions” including tax payments.
The change coincides with Citibank taking over the Coles Rewards MasterCard from Latitude Financial Services, which will also happen on 5 March 2018.
The Coles Rewards MasterCard has been a surprisingly popular card since the credit card “apocalypse” in July 2017. With an annual fee of just $99, the card awards 2 uncapped Flybuys points per dollar. Flybuys points can be converted to Velocity points or (until recently) Etihad Guest miles. There are also no international transaction fees. Until now the card also awarded points for tax payments to the ATO, but unfortunately that will no longer be the case.
Coles MC we will miss you post March 5 – got a feel good email last week from FB – apparently I’m in the top 1% of FB points earners due to my Coles FS activity. Guess was fun while it lasted.
This latest change leaves only a handful of Australian credit cards that still award points on ATO tax payments. The good news is that there are still multiple options, including cards issued by St George.
