Royal Jordanian: Another Oneworld Option to Europe

Royal Jordanian Airlines may not be the first airline you think of when planning a trip to Europe. But the Oneworld airline and Qantas partner operates flights between Asia and 18 European destinations via its hub in Amman, Jordan. This is good to know because Royal Jordanian has excellent award availability in both Economy and Business class.

Royal Jordanian flies daily from Amman to Bangkok using modern Boeing 787 Dreamliners. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays the flight continues to Kuala Lumpur. On the other four days, it continues to Hong Kong.

The flight between Bangkok and Amman is timed to connect with most of Royal Jordanian’s European services. The Oneworld airline flies to most major cities in Europe and western Asia, plus some more obscure destinations like Geneva, Larnaca, Berlin and Tel Aviv.

If you happen to have a long layover in Amman, you can take advantage of Royal Jordanian’s Zuwar Stopover Program. This program offers Amman city tours and dining packages, among other things.

Royal Jordanian award flights can be booked using Qantas points. (You can also use any other Oneworld program, such as Cathay Pacific Asia Miles or American Airlines AAdvantage.) A flight from Bangkok, Hong Kong or Kuala Lumpur to Amman costs 35,000 Qantas points in Economy or 65,000 points for Business class.

Royal Jordanian does add a fuel surcharge, bringing the taxes payable to around $250 one-way. But these taxes are lower if you book a flight departing Hong Kong, where fuel surcharges are regulated.

You’ll pay 65,000 Qantas points and just $65 in taxes for a Royal Jordanian seat from Hong Kong to Amman in Business class. (This will likely increase when Hong Kong removes its ban on fuel surcharges from 1 November 2018.)

If you’re flying Royal Jordanian from Bangkok or KL to London (via Amman), the number of Qantas points required increases to 50,000 for Economy or 92,000 for Business.

Qantas also partners with Emirates and Qatar Airways, which offer many flights between Asia and Europe via their respective hubs. But one advantage of using Royal Jordanian it that there is award availability almost every day! You can search for availability and book using the Qantas website. If you’re looking for a multi-stop flight via Amman, you may need to use the multi-city booking tool.

With such great award availability, Royal Jordanian is a good Oneworld alternative from Asia to Europe if you’re having trouble using your Qantas points. It can be an especially handy option if you’re struggling to find Oneworld award availability as part of a Qantas Oneworld Award itinerary.
