Asia Miles Awards to Book Before 22 June

There’s just over a week left until the Cathay Pacific Asia Miles devaluation takes effect. On Friday 22 June, some Asia Miles awards will become more expensive and the round-trip discount will be removed. If you have a stash of Asia Miles, now might be a good time to spend them!

The upcoming Asia Miles devaluation affects mid-length and long-haul flights in premium cabins most significantly. Return flights will soon cost more too, due to the removal of the round-trip discount. But some Cathay Pacific short-haul and ultra-long-haul redemptions will reduce slightly in price.

While we already know what changes are coming to Asia Miles redemptions for Cathay Pacific flights, we don’t yet what many partner airline award flights will cost after 22 June. But almost all of the examples we’ve seen indicate that price increases can be expected.

You can read more about the upcoming Asia Miles devaluation here. In the meantime, here are some of our favourite Asia Miles awards to book while you still can!

1. Australia to Hong Kong in Premium Economy or Business

It currently costs 54,000 Asia Miles for a round-trip Premium Economy award from anywhere in Australia to Hong Kong. This will increase on 22 June to 60,000 Asia Miles for Cathay Pacific flights. We don’t yet know how much Qantas Premium Economy flights will cost.

Business class redemptions are hit harder. Currently 80,000 miles round-trip from Australia to Hong Kong, this increases to 90,000 Asia Miles for Cathay Pacific award flights. But if you’re flying Qantas, the price will increase to 100,000 miles.

2. Qantas Premium Economy to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Santiago or Johannesburg

There’s currently a “sweet spot” where it costs only 72,000 Asia Miles return to fly Qantas Premium Economy on most long-haul routes. This includes Sydney-Los Angeles, Brisbane-Los Angeles, Sydney-San Francisco, Sydney-Santiago and Sydney-Johannesburg. However, the price will increase to 100,000 miles return from 22 June.

3. Oneworld Multi-Carrier Awards

Oneworld multi-carrier awards, similar to the Qantas Oneworld Awards, are another Asia Miles “sweet spot”. These are also increasing in price from 22 June. A round-the-world trip of up to 35,000 miles in length will increase by 20,000 Asia Miles to 210,000 miles. First class bookings increase by 25,000 miles to a new price of 300,000 Asia Miles.

4. Award flights on partner airlines (generally)

Asia Miles awards, in general, are currently very good value. But Asia Miles has been very sketchy about providing details of upcoming changes to award flights for travel on partner airlines. While we know how Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon flights will be priced after 22 June, Asia Miles has refused to provide new partner airline award charts. We’ll only know what the new prices are after they come into effect. It’s unlikely Asia Miles would be withholding this information if the changes were positive!
