More Premium Qantas Award Availability to Honolulu

More Premium Qantas Award Availability to Hawaii

Want to use your Qantas points to fly to Hawaii? You’re in luck! Qantas has released a ton of extra Premium Economy and Business Class reward seats to Honolulu.

Historically, it has been near-impossible to redeem points for Qantas Business Class seats to Hawaii. But this changed when Qantas brought its Boeing 747 jumbo jet onto the Sydney-Honolulu route earlier this year. The Boeing 747 has roughly the same number of Economy seats as the Airbus A330 it replaces… but it also comes with a Premium Economy cabin and around double the number of Business seats.

With the larger Boeing 747 serving the route, there are more premium seats to go around. Qantas is in turn releasing more seats to frequent flyers that wish to redeem their Qantas points for a Hawaii holiday!

Qantas originally planned to use Boeing 747s on its Sydney-Honolulu route only over the peak summer holiday period. But the airline will now keep jumbo jets on the Hawaii route until 28 August 2019.

The good news for frequent flyers is that there are now more Business class and Premium Economy Qantas award availability to Hawaii. Extra seats have just been released for travel during the period where an Airbus A330 was originally scheduled for the route. That’s from the end of April until 28 August 2019.

A one-way Business Class reward seat from Sydney to Honolulu on Qantas flight QF3 will set you back 72,000 Qantas points and $326.47 in taxes and charges. Premium Economy is a little cheaper at 54,000 Qantas points plus $306.47. The Qantas Premium Economy product is very similar to Jetstar’s Business Class, which can be booked for 57,600 Qantas points and $320.28 and typically has better award availability.

Admittedly, Qantas’ Airbus A330 Business Suites are a little nicer than the second-generation SkyBeds found on the ageing Boeing 747 fleet. But the Boeing 747 Business seats are still lie-flat and a comfortable way to fly.

Once the Sydney-Honolulu route reverts to an Airbus A330 service at the end of August 2019,  you can expect the usual lack of any Qantas premium cabin award availability to Hawaii to return. And with the Qantas Boeing 747s slated for retirement within the next two years, it’s unlikely these aircraft will return to the Honolulu route after August 2019. So get in quick!
