Qantas will launch seasonal non-stop flights between Melbourne and Queenstown, New Zealand just in time for the winter ski season.
The new Qantas flights will run on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 21 June until 27 August 2019. A Boeing 737-800 with Economy and Business class will be used on the Melbourne-Queenstown route.
Here is the schedule for Qantas’ Melbourne-Queenstown flights:
- QF177 Melbourne 07:15 – Queenstown 12:30
- QF178 Queenstown 13:30 – Melbourne 15:10
The new Qantas route to Queenstown is made possible by a reduction in service on the Melbourne-Christchurch route. This flight normally runs daily, but will be reduced to 4x weekly over the winter.
This route provides Melburnians with another option when travelling to Queenstown over the winter ski season. Qantas already runs year-round services from Sydney to Queenstown and 2x weekly Brisbane-Queenstown flights during winter.
Qantas is offering launch fares from Melbourne to Queenstown at $473 return in Economy. Virgin Australia, which also launched Melbourne-Queenstown flights last year, has matched Qantas’ sale price. Meanwhile, Air New Zealand is currently offering fares on this route from $372 return (or $452 return including checked baggage and meals). Jetstar also flies this route and flights are currently available from $274 return, excluding all extras.
Qantas also runs seasonal flights from Sydney to Vancouver during the northern winter ski season from December to January. These flights also used to operate during the July school holidays, but Qantas’ July flights to Vancouver are no longer being offered this year.
