Singapore Airlines is currently running its own version of a “bonus status credits” offer! You can currently earn 50% bonus KrisFlyer elite miles, which count towards Singapore Airlines status, on round-trip Singapore Airlines and SilkAir flights departing from Australia.
The 50% bonus KrisFlyer elite miles are on offer when flying from anywhere in Australia to Singapore, or 9 other destinations across Asia and Europe. The eligible destinations are London, Frankfurt, Rome, Phuket, Koh Samui, Tokyo, Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. Bonus elite miles can be earned in all classes of travel.
This promotion is running until 14 March 2019, and applies to travel completed until 31 March 2020. There’s no need to register for this promotion, but to earn bonus KrisFlyer elite miles you’ll need to book directly on the Singapore Airlines website. You must add your KrisFlyer membership number to the booking before travelling.
Only round-trip bookings that start and end in Australia are eligible for this promotion. All flights in the itinerary must be operated by Singapore Airlines and/or SilkAir. Itineraries that include codeshare flights on other partner airlines are not eligible. An exception is itineraries that include connecting domestic flights on Virgin Australia – in this case, the bonus KrisFlyer elite miles will still apply but not for the Virgin Australia sectors.
The bonus KrisFlyer elite miles will be credited within 2 weeks of travelling. Note that this promotion only comes with bonus elite miles, which count towards KrisFlyer status. You’ll still earn award miles, which can be redeemed for rewards, at the regular rate.
See the Singapore Airlines website for the full offer terms & conditions.
KrisFlyer is the popular frequent flyer program of Singapore Airlines. To achieve KrisFlyer Silver status, which is equivalent to Star Alliance Silver, you would need to earn 25,000 elite miles within 12 months. The goal for KrisFlyer Gold status, equivalent to Star Alliance Gold, is 50,000 elite miles within a year. KrisFlyer status provides benefits when flying with Singapore and SilkAir, all Star Alliance airlines and other partners including Virgin Australia.
Like most Star Alliance airlines, KrisFlyer credits elite miles based on the fare class and distance flown (in miles). For example, the KrisFlyer miles you’d earn for an Economy Standard ticket would be 75% of the actual miles flown. Economy Lite, the cheapest fare category, earns at a 50% rate. For a Business class ticket, you’d earn at least 125% of the distance flown in miles.
As an example, a return trip from Sydney to London via Singapore in Premium Economy (earning 100% of miles flown) would normally earn 21,162 KrisFlyer elite miles. With the 50% bonus elite miles promo, this would increase to 31,743 elite miles – more than enough for KrisFlyer Silver status.
