Our members have some confessions to make. This week they discuss the excuses offered to friends and family when trying to explain their frequent flying. While some travel frequently for work, flying is an exciting yet misunderstood hobby for others.
For some of our fortunate members, regular overseas travel is considered normal. Some members fly simply because they enjoy the experience. A select few will even fly to a destination for no reason other than to pick up status credits in an airline’s loyalty program, in what is known as a “status run.” However, many people don’t share this passion for flying and fail to see any sense in travelling across the country or even overseas for a weekend – which is why many members’ attempts to explain or justify their frequent travels are often met by blank faces.
While many can’t talk enough about their latest overseas jaunt, some members admit that they actually avoid talking about their travels – especially if they involve a lot of business or first class flying. They worry that people might become jealous, or simply aren’t interested. One member reports that some friends assume they are a multi-millionaire because of their regular first class flying. However our member points out that their frequent first flying is only made possible thanks to frequent flyer miles.
