Jetstar Business Class is not exactly renowned as a top-notch premium product. But is it worth considering when the price is only a little higher than Qantas’ asking price for a seat in Economy?
This is the dilemma faced by one member currently researching flights to Hawaii. Qantas Business Class is too expensive, and our member does not fancy the thought of flying Economy on a long-haul Jetstar flight. So, is Jetstar Business class a good middle ground? Or is Qantas, as a premium airline, just as good in Economy?
Am looking to book a flight to Honolulu. What would be a better option. I have flown Jetstar starclass before but was wondering what the difference would be now with the new Qantas plane in economy. Also is the extra leg room an option flying Qantas.
Qantas recently upgraded its Honolulu flights to internationally-configured A330 aircraft. (These will eventually be replaced by newly refurbished A330s with brand new seats & entertainment systems in Economy, and lie-flat suites in Business.) As a full service airline, Qantas provides a full service in Economy including meals, personal in-flight entertainment and a generous baggage allowance. There is also the possibility, for a $180 fee, to purchase a seat with extra legroom. Although these extra perks can make the flight more enjoyable; it is still Economy.
Jetstar’s Business Class is comparable to Premium Economy on full-service airlines. But prices are often very competitive. The seats are standard recliner seats – which don’t convert to lie-flat beds – but are wider than regular economy seats and come with additional legroom. In addition, Business passengers on Jetstar receive better meals, more personalised service and other Business class perks. These include lounge access and an increased number of Qantas points & status credits. (Note that lounge access and Qantas points are only available if a more expensive Business Max bundle is purchased.)
With that in mind, our members almost unanimously agree that Jetstar Business is indeed worth a small premium over Economy on Qantas.
Jetstar ‘business’ class hands-down!! I think JQ’s starclass is a lot of fun, and they go out of their way to make sure you have a great flight.
While the extra legroom in Jetstar Business class can make for a more comfortable flight, it isn’t quite a match for the lie-flat beds offered by premium airlines in Business.
I can vouch for getting more legroom however the foot rest is like an aluminium rung on a ladder so it wouldn’t be a very comfortable option on an overnight flight. It’s still better than flying whY which we did in the other direction on an overnight flight which was pretty uncomfortable as not enough legroom so you can’t stretch your legs under the seat in front of you properly.
Selecting a bulkhead seat in the first row is one way to guarantee a more comfortable flight with Jetstar. Though some members claim they have been bumped from the first row by parents with children that require the bassinet in this row.
