An international flight in First class is a bucket list trip for many people. But our member Justinf recently decided to turn his dream into a reality by sampling First class on Qantas’ longest flight! Flying from Sydney to Dallas/Fort Worth in the United States, our member got to try out Qantas’ flagship First class product on the A380 superjumbo.
There was a very special reason for our member taking this flight…
A few weeks before Dad died he asked me what I wanted to do. I told him the usual stuff – pay off the mortgage, upgrade my car etc and he scoffed. “What do you really want to do with some of the money?” he asked sternly. “I’ve always wanted to fly international first class,” I said. “Then do it,” he replied.
With his father’s blessing, Justinf began planning his trip.
The First class experience began with a visit to Qantas’ famous First class lounge. Following the advice of other AFF members, our member had allowed several hours in the lounge. A massage, salt & pepper squid and a nice selection of wine made the time pass very quickly. Soon it was time to board the aircraft for the long flight to Dallas.
I went out into the terminal and headed to the gate with a sense of absolute excitement about what was to follow. Boarding was quick as I used the priority lane (as you do) and was escorted to seat 1A. I took my seat and looked around. Nice and roomy.
Our member quickly settled in.
This first class thing was now starting to grow on me. After take off, the seat swivels around to face the flatscreen TV. I put it into recline mode and decided to enjoy more wine.
I was, to use a really poor cliche, a kid in a candy shop with the attention span to match.
The flight to Dallas takes around 15 hours, so there was plenty of time for a deep slumber in the First class pyjamas.
Our member was especially happy with the service on this flight. The crew well and truly went the extra mile to ensure the flight was a memorable experience.
About 30 minutes before we touched down, the three FAs presented me with a card signed by all of them with a note and also with a bag containing two bottles of the wine that I enjoyed the most on my flight – the Wolf Blass Black label cab sav and the Flametree Margaret River chardonnay. To say I was touched was an understatement.
This flight was followed by a ten day trip around Texas. Read all Justinf‘s flight, the rest of the trip and the return flight HERE.
