Velocity Frequent Flyer has reached 10 million members, and it’s launched a unique new promotion to celebrate.
There are 3 parts to this “Pay Day” promotion: free bonus status credits, free bonus points and a double points offer.
Free Velocity Status Credits
Yesterday, Velocity gifted 10 bonus status credits to every single member.
These status credits should have appeared in your Velocity Frequent Flyer account as “Pay day – VA Status Credit BONUS”.
The free status credits have been largely well-received, although one AFF member is annoyed that it pushed them into a higher status tier two months before they had planned – bringing forward next year’s review date by two months and screwing up their careful planning.
Free Velocity Points via the Velocity App
Virgin Australia is also giving away a share of 10 million Velocity points to anyone that downloads the Velocity Frequent Flyer App and activates the promo on their mobile device. The free points will be evenly distributed between all of the members that register for the offer. Keep in mind that the Velocity App is separate to the Virgin Australia App.
To receive your share of Velocity points, you’ll need to log in to the Velocity App and activate the offer by 13 October 2019. The share of points will be allocated by 31 October 2019.
Interestingly, the offer T&Cs state that the total prize pool of 10 million Velocity points is valued at $317,073.17 excluding GST. This would value Velocity points at 3.17 cents each… which seems rather high, given you can buy Velocity points for as low as 2.34 cents per point – or even less with the current 20% discount.
Double Velocity Points on Virgin Australia Flight Bookings
Virgin Australia is also currently offering double points on new flight bookings. To take part, you would need to activate the offer and book by 13 October 2019, and travel any time until 4 September 2020. The offer is available on all Virgin Australia flights that normally earn points, but does not apply to bookings on partner airlines (including “VA” codeshare flights). The double points will apply only to the base points, and not any status tier bonuses.
Separately, you can also currently earn bonus Velocity points on Etihad Airways bookings from Australia or New Zealand to Abu Dhabi or beyond. You’ll earn 7,800 bonus Velocity points or Etihad Guest miles (depending on which program you credit to) for Economy bookings, and 15,500 bonus points/miles for Business or First bookings. That’s enough Velocity points (or more than enough Etihad Guest miles) to book a Virgin Australia reward flight.
