Qantas is turning 99 years old next month. To celebrate the airline’s entry into its 100th year, it has painted its brand new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in a special centenary livery.
VH-ZNJ, named “Longreach”, is Qantas’ tenth Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. It will be delivered to the airline this week and, as it makes its way to Australia, will fly non-stop from New York to Sydney – a world first for any commercial airline. This will be the first of three Qantas Project Sunrise test flights.
Qantas 100th Anniversary Livery
The Qantas Dreamliner centenary livery features “100” in large letters towards the front of the fuselage. A display of the Qantas brand evolution is visible on the side of the plane, with each of Qantas’ old logos painted on.
The Qantas 100th anniversary livery doesn’t look too bad. But unfortunately for Qantas, the reaction from AFF members so far has been a little… underwhelming…
Yawn
Exciting it is not.
They should have just done another indigenous artwork plane, they look incredible. Its not offensive just a bit boring.
Other special Qantas liveries
In the past, Qantas has painted its aircraft with a variety of special liveries, including some iconic Aboriginal artwork.
Qantas currently has two aircraft – a Boeing 787-9 and a Boeing 737-800 – painted in Indigenous liveries.
There are also two “Retro Roo” Boeing 737s taking to the skies in retro Qantas liveries from the past.
