The Ultimate Australian Credit Card Points Transfer Matrix

The AFF Credit Card Points Transfer Assistant

Credit cards are one of the easiest ways to earn frequent flyer points in Australia. While there are credit cards that earn Qantas points or Velocity points directly, other cards allow you to earn points with the bank’s own credit card rewards program. You can then transfer these points onwards to an airline frequent flyer program as required.

There are many advantages to earning flexible credit card rewards points. For example, you’re not locked to using one specific frequent flyer program that may or may not be the best option for a given reward flight redemption. There is also less risk of your points expiring unused – just make sure you don’t let your credit card points expire.

Each Australian credit card rewards program has its own mix of airline transfer partners. The rate at which you can convert your points also varies.

For easy comparisons, we created a matrix below. You can view exactly which airlines partner with each Australian credit card provider and the rate at which you can transfer points!

Keep in mind that the below chart only shows you the conversion ratio from the bank’s own loyalty program to the target frequent flyer program. It doesn’t take into account the number of points you’ll earn per dollar spent with any particular credit card.

Note that many banks offer the option to either opt-in to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points or points with the bank’s own rewards program – but not both. In general, you cannot transfer points from a credit card loyalty program to Qantas Frequent Flyer. The only exception in Australia is if you have an American Express Platinum or Centurion charge card that earns Amex Membership Rewards Ascent Premium points.

In this update, we’ve removed Diners Club Rewards (which is no longer offered in Australia), added Virgin Money Rewards, and added Everyday Rewards as a program you can transfer points into from Westpac and St.George.
