There are currently some very good deals available on flights from Australia to the Maldives, a sought-after island holiday destination located to the south of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean.
Air Asia and Singapore Airlines both have cheap flights to the Maldives, starting at just $558 return from Perth, or $563 return from Melbourne. The Maldives is normally quite an expensive destination, so it’s nice to see affordable airfares to paradise.
Cheap Air Asia flights from Australia to the Maldives
Air Asia has some great deals available from Perth, Sydney and Melbourne (where the airline flies from Avalon Airport) to Malé, the capital of the Maldives.
Flights from Perth to Malé are on sale from $563.38 return, via Kuala Lumpur. You can save an additional $6, bringing the price down to $557.38 return, by booking on a computer and logging into your Asia Asia BIG Loyalty account (it’s free to join).
Air Asia flights from Melbourne to Malé (via Kuala Lumpur) are available from $569 return, or $563 return for logged-in members of Air Asia’s Loyalty program. Fares from Sydney to Malé are similarly priced, however we couldn’t find any great deals on Air Asia flights from the Gold Coast.
These Air Asia fares do not include extras such as meals, checked baggage and seat selection. You can add these by purchasing a “Value Pack” for an additional fee of $89.98 each way (from Perth to Malé) or $98.48 each way (from Melbourne to Malé). You can book on the Air Asia website.
That said, if you’re going to add checked baggage and meals, you should consider flying with Singapore Airlines instead. All Singapore Airlines tickets include checked baggage and meals. You’ll also get access to in-flight entertainment and a more comfortable seat on Singapore Airlines, as well as the ability to earn Velocity points or KrisFlyer miles.
If you’re flying from Perth to Malé, a Singapore Airlines ticket will actually cost you less than an Air Asia ticket with the Value Pack added on. From other Australian cities, the price difference is marginal.

Free stopovers in Singapore are possible, and this sale ends on 28 February 2020. You can book on the Singapore Airlines website.
