Update: The double status credits promotion has been extended for 24 hours due to the problems experienced on the evening of 25 February. You can now earn double status credits for eligible bookings made by 11.59pm (AEDT) on 26 February 2020.
The Qantas website has suffered a major meltdown in the final hours of the February 2020 double status credits offer. Dozens of AFF members have been unable to book flights. There are also reports of waiting times to contact the Qantas call centre that are even more outrageous than normal – and that’s saying something.
Here’s what just a few AFF members had to say about the Qantas website meltdown:
Getting nothing but errors on the QF site currently trying to finalise the last few bookings. Tried different internet connections as well but it’s pretty flaky.
The Qantas website seems to have been enhanced out of existence.
Its not that the website is ‘down’, it’s just that it keeps crashing every time you search for a flight, or select a flight, or proceed to actually pay/process your booking
Unable to search for flights. Has the website had a meltdown?
5 hours attempting to make bookings none succeeded. If Qantas don’t extend i will be extremely disappointed – absolute disgrace.
Website has ground to a halt for me here. unable to search flights on the main site or the mobile site.
“Sorry an error seems to have occurred, and this page cannot be displayed”I am able to replicate the problem on multiple browsers different internet connections different computers etc.
Frustrated and annoyed I’ve decided to give up for the night. Poor form Qantas.
Qantas customers have not had much better luck getting through to the Qantas call centre. To make the website meltdown worse, Qantas has stopped offering call backs to – meaning customers ringing the call centre have no choice but to wait on hold for the many hours it takes to finally get through to a person.
Even Gold frequent flyers – who should have priority in the call centre queue – are having to wait well over two hours to speak to somebody. For example, the AFF member RedSMS – a Gold member – waited 2 hours and 18 minutes on hold this evening after being promised an waiting time of 42-65 minutes.
If Qantas was trying to stimulate demand by launching a double status credits offer, it seems to have worked. But the entire exercise is pointless if customers are unable to actually make a booking!
