As the coronavirus crisis continues, many airline passengers are still waiting for refunds from cancelled flight bookings. Meanwhile, some passengers have discovered that they would have to pay extra – thousands of dollars, in some cases – to rebook their cancelled flights for a different date.
This is exactly what happened recently to a Lufthansa customer in Germany. They were asked to pay a fare difference of around $5,000 to rebook their flights from Stockholm to Buenos Aires, after the airline cancelled their original flights. The matter was taken to court in Germany and the airline lost, resulting in a very consumer-friendly change to the airline’s procedures!

Thanks Matt – very informative interview with Matthias Böse. Looks like the Europeans have better formal flight refund protection than Australians. It would be great to hear about the refund policies of other world airlines affecting Australians such as LATAM etc. I’m currently going through a very frustrating and stressful struggle with Flight Centre and LATAM on combined international and domestic flights worth in excess of $A6k. LATAM will not engage with me always just referring me back to my travel agency.
