Qantas last week opened its brand new lounge in the international terminal of Brisbane Airport. The new lounge replaces the outdated Business and First class lounges previously used in Brisbane.
The lounge is a combined space for Gold and Platinum frequent flyers, as well as Business and First class passengers. This is the same concept used in Qantas’ other new international lounges in Singapore and Hong Kong.
The lounge is 30% larger than the previous space, with an additional upstairs area also now open to guests. The “island dining” concept features heavily, with a Neil Perry menu available to travellers. There is also a barista on-hand and a range of other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages on offer.
Our members were among the first to try out the new lounge, with several lucky AFF members attending last week’s “champagne breakfast” launch. These members were the lucky recipients of invitations from Red Roo, our forum’s Qantas representative!
So far, the lounge appears to be a hit with travellers…
I thought the lounge itself was great. A range of places to sit, depending on ones mood and travelling companions. If the food offered today was typical of what will be offered when the lounge is open (on Thursday), no-one will be disappointed. I had not experienced the new lounges at HKG or SIN, but feel this is a happy medium between a QP and FLounge – for locations without an FLounge. The Qantas staff I spoke with were clearly very proud of the new offering.
Great upgrade for BNE, lots of practical spaces. Doesnt appear to have more seats than last time, but is definitely a bigger space. Lots of different areas to suit different types of needs.
Popular with solo travellers are the single seats, which offer enough room to store a plate of food (and glass of champagne), as well as power points and USB ports.
I bet the “cabana” bench seat against the window overlooking the terminal concourse will be popular, the first to go every morning.
We can expect to see more new Qantas lounges in the near future. There are currently plans for new Qantas lounges in London, Auckland and the domestic terminal in Brisbane.
