A Qantas flyer is bitterly disappointed after the airline refused to award any points or status credits for their flight. The Qantas flight to Shanghai was booked directly on the airline’s website. Our member had been relying on the status credits to reach the next status tier.
Qantas advertises that all Qantas flights booked on its website are eligible to earn points and status credits, and this booking was made under this assumption. There are some exceptions, including frequent flyer reward bookings and discounted staff travel tickets that do not earn points. But the ticket booked by our member was a regular, paid Qantas flight.
It seems that Qantas sold our member a ticket from a fare class designated for “employee travel”, which is ineligible for frequent flyer earn. However, this information was not available to our member at the time of booking as Qantas does not display this fare class on its website. Further, our members question why this fare was ever made available for sale to the public.
Although this situation appears unusual, our members recommend double-checking that any airfares booked on the Qantas website are eligible to earn points. Our members have also called for Qantas to update its website so that the fare class is clearly displayed at the time of booking.
