Virgin Australia may still be in voluntary administration, owing thousands of customers refunds, but that’s not stopping the airline from trying to stimulate new flight bookings!
Velocity Frequent Flyer has launched a new “double points” offer on Virgin Australia flights this week. Until 29 September 2020, you can earn double Velocity points on new Virgin Australia domestic flight bookings when you travel by 17 August 2021.
To take advantage this deal, you’ll first need to register on the Velocity Frequent Flyer website. After registering, ensure that you enter your Velocity number at the time of booking.
All Virgin Australia operated and marketed domestic flights are eligible for this double Velocity points offer. Double points will not be earned on domestic flights booked as part of an international booking, although Virgin Australia is not currently operating any international flights anyway. The double points will be earned only on the base points (meaning you’ll earn 10 Velocity points instead of 5 per $1 spent), and don’t apply to any status bonus points.
There does not appear to be any restriction on using flight credits to pay for flights that earn Velocity double points.
If you are planning to book a new Virgin Australia domestic flight anyway, there’s no harm in registering for this offer. But with so much uncertainty around travel restrictions, we wouldn’t suggest booking discretionary flights right now for travel well into the future, just for the sake of some bonus points.
Change fees waived until 31 January 2020
Virgin Australia has also recently extended its change fee waiver for new bookings until 31 January 2020. If you book and are due to travel by January next year, you can change your domestic booking an unlimited number of times without paying change fees. This includes date and destination changes. However, any fare difference will apply.
