A new member has decided to take the plunge and travel overseas for the first time at the age of 50! While this first-time flyer is excited, th’re very nervous about the long flight to London. They’re unsure what to expect and are concerned about flying long distances over water.
Our members have generously offered an enormous amount of sage advice to reassure this first-time overseas flyer and help them to plan the perfect trip.
Some have suggested adding a stopover on the way to London. Often costing no extra, stopovers are a great way to break up the trip and see more of the world! In preparation for the long haul to Europe, another member recommends first taking a shorter “taster” overseas trip, e.g. to New Zealand.
To help them enjoy the trip, this member has decided to splurge on Business class. While Qantas and British Airways were originally considered, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific or Qatar Airways are recommended instead. Our members believe that these airlines will provide a superior product at a lower price. They particularly advise against flying British Airways due to its poor seating and service.
Our members have also provided reassurance that flying is now safer than ever. They explain that emergency contingencies are in place and that planes can fly and land safely, even with an inoperable engine. Our popular “Ask The Pilot” thread is recommended as a must-read resource for nervous flyers. The thread contains incredible insights from real pilots, including a current Qantas A380 captain.
Travelling overseas for the first time can be daunting, but just one trip can be enough to catch the travel bug. We wish this member all the best on their overseas adventure!
