Singapore Airlines is renowned for its quality product and service, and flying doesn’t get much more luxurious than Suites class on a Singapore Airlines A380. Each A380 First class Suite comes with a comfortable bed and sliding doors for privacy, as well as top-notch cuisine. If you’re travelling as a couple, you can even create a double bed in the sky by joining together adjacent Suites.
If you have Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles – or Virgin Australia Velocity points – you can experience Suites class for less than you might expect!
Within Australia & New Zealand, Suites class is offered on Singapore Airlines flights to Sydney and Auckland. First class (but not Suites) is also offered on Boeing 777-300ER flights, including to Melbourne.
A one-way Suites award from Australia to Singapore costs 80,000 KrisFlyer miles. It’s the same price to fly to any destination in South-East Asia (via Singapore), including Hong Kong which also has A380 service. In addition to the KrisFlyer miles, around $84 in taxes are payable (e.g. for Sydney-Singapore).
Travelling to Europe? Singapore Airlines flies the A380 to London, Frankfurt, Paris and Zurich! A Suites seat from Australia to Europe will set you back 148,000 KrisFlyer miles each way.
Velocity points can also be redeemed for travel on Singapore Airlines, but not for Suites. To book a Singapore Airlines First class award using Velocity points, you would first need to transfer your Velocity points into your KrisFlyer account. The conversion rate is 1.35 Velocity points to 1 KrisFlyer mile. This can be done online and takes only a few minutes. Once the points have reached your KrisFlyer account, you can book through the Singapore Airlines website.
Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer is a transfer partner of most Australian credit card rewards programs.
Pro tip: It’s slightly cheaper to make a combined Singapore Airlines/Star Alliance award booking! If you were to book a First class flight to Singapore on Singapore Airlines, and add on a Singapore-Bangkok sector on Thai Airways (for example), the cost would be reduced to 75,000 KrisFlyer miles. If booking this as a return trip, you’re also entitled to a free stopover in one direction.
