FlyPelican passengers departing from Sydney or Canberra on selected fare types can now enjoy access to the Virgin Australia Lounge ahead of their flight.
From this week, FlyPelican passengers booked on a Pelican Corporate or Pelican Flexible fare receive lounge access, where available, as an inclusion with their ticket. This is available regardless of your Velocity Frequent Flyer tier status or Virgin Australia Lounge membership.
This inclusion is advertised when you book a flight on FlyPelican’s website.
However, lounge access is not offered to FlyPelican customers booked on a cheaper Pelican Saver, Pelican Flyer or $72 within 72 hours ticket – even if you would otherwise get Virgin lounge access through your Velocity membership.
FlyPelican is a regional airline based in Newcastle. It flies a small fleet of Jetstream 32 aircraft, mostly to destinations within NSW and the ACT. The carrier also offers service from Newcastle to Sunshine Coast Airport.

Lounge access would be available with a Pelican Corporate or Flexible ticket when flying from Canberra to Newcastle, Port Macquarie and Ballina, or from Sydney to Mudgee, Newcastle, Taree and Cobar. Virgin lounge access is not available on arrival when flying in the opposite direction.
FlyPelican customers can also earn Velocity points when flying with the airline, with the earn rate based on the fare type purchased. But FlyPelican is not a full-fledged Velocity partner airline as Velocity status benefits don’t apply, no status credits are earned and – as cool as that would be – there is no possibility to redeem Velocity points for FlyPelican flights.
