Greater Benefits for Qantas Business Rewards Members

Qantas has made it easier for businesses to achieve a higher level in its Qantas Business Rewards program, while also increasing the benefits offered with each tier. Changes include larger discounts on flights and Qantas Club membership, as well as a new Gold Accelerator offer.

Qantas Frequent Flyer members who book through Qantas Business Rewards and earn points for their business will also now earn a “Flyer Bonus” of 250 Qantas points per booking for themselves. This is in addition to the usual Qantas points earned by the flyer, and the Qantas Business Rewards points earned by the business.

Lower thresholds for achieving a higher level

With the Qantas Business Rewards program, businesses and can earn points by spending with program partners and whenever an employee flies with Qantas. These points can be redeemed like regular Qantas points for business travel, or transferred at a 1:1 rate to any nominated person’s Qantas Frequent Flyer account. (A minimum of 3,000 points are required per transfer.)

This aspect of the Qantas Business Rewards program is not changing. But within the loyalty program for small-to-medium businesses, there are also three status “levels”. The higher levels, as you would expect, come with greater benefits.

Qantas Business Rewards members can reach a higher level by earning a certain number of points each year from flights taken by people travelling for the business. These thresholds have just been reduced:

  • Level 1 is the base tier
  • Level 2 now requires at least 15,000 Qantas points earned from flying each year (previously 20,000 points)
  • Level 3 now requires at least 80,000 Qantas points earned from flying each year (previously 100,000 points)

Qantas Business Rewards points can be earned when people travelling for the business book an eligible Qantas domestic or international flight with a “QF” flight number on the ticket. The ticket must be purchased in Australia on Qantas ticket stock.

Businesses earn a percentage of the points earned by the flyer, with Level 1 businesses earning 20%, Level 2 earning 30%, and Level 3 earning at a 40% rate.

Improved benefits at each level

Upon reaching Level 2 or 3, Qantas Business Rewards members can now get 30% off Qantas Club membership (previously 20% for all members). The 20% Qantas Club discount is still available for Level 1 members.

Level 3 members can also nominate one traveller for a fast-track to Qantas Gold status each year through the Gold Tier Accelerator offer.

Increased flight discounts

There have also been some improvements to the flight discounts available to members at each tier level.

I think the main thing is lowering the thresholds for Tiers. I need to digest it a bit more also.

Overall, the changes seem to be positive. I suspect they did some market research and discovered that the previous version of the program wasn't attractive enough to influence business behaviour to a large enough extent.

Qantas needs business travellers to return to the skies. Improving QBR is one way it can try to do this.

Those with a QBR Amex can now triple dip.

I got the email too, of course, but found a discrepancy/error unless things are rolling out slowly?

I have been a level 2, and realistically thought I’d fail to stay at the level this year as my flying has been way down in 2021-2022, year ending April. But in the email they advise of an upgrade to level 3 for me and correctly display the current number of points I have. When I log in though, I’m clearly still a level 2! I do note my year hasn’t also been extended to 2023 yet though.

We are pleased to advise that these enhancements have also meant your business has moved up to Level 3 and that we have extended your membership anniversary by 12 months to give you more time to enjoy the bigger savings and greater value that Level 3 provides.

The whole Qantas points system should be a uni degree, the mapping is ridiculous to make sure you are maximising the benefit.

I’m not sure I am so let’s see.

Firstly I’m new to chasing points, and have a Qantas Amex as well so I get triple points through that.

I am bronze FF as I don’t travel for work, mainly pleasure, the whole status credits means getting to silver would be hard.

This makes the business tiers more attractive as getting to tier 3 is achievable, so I have a chance to get to gold FF status.

I am currently level 2 business.

So if I get this right, my up coming Canada flights are 10,000 points each direction (give or take), my Amex gives me triple points for Qantas flights (on top of the 2 per $1 I spend). That’s 30,000 points per direction (four of us travelling) so 120,000 points each way = 240,000 points, the business then gets the tier 2 bonus of 30 points per 100 so another 72,000.

This would of course get me to gold and make it achievable to stay there.

Can someone confirm what the 20% (or higher) earn rate on flights is supposed to be based on? I just had some long haul QF J flights post and they appear to be 20% of what I’d earn flying whY not J. Does that sound right - no advantage booking higher than whY? I was kind of hoping I’d tick over Tier 2 with two of us travelling….

Most of my previous QBR flight activity has been Dom whY, so hadn’t really noticed.
