Many Australian frequent flyers will be familiar with Qantas’ Oneworld Classic Flight Reward – the multi-city award that lets you fly up to 35,000 miles on Oneworld airlines, with up to 5 stopovers, for a cost of 318,000 Qantas points + taxes in Business Class.
Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer also offers its own version of this award called the Star Alliance Round The World Award. This has different rules to the Qantas version, and you have to actually use it to fly around the world in a continuous east or west direction. But it can be just as good value – if not better! The KrisFlyer Star Alliance Round The World Award costs just 280,000 KrisFlyer miles + taxes for Business Class.
In Episode 92 of the AFF on Air podcast, Matt explains how the KrisFlyer Star Alliance Round The World Award works and speaks to Alan Lam, our regular travel agent guest on the podcast, about how he managed to book three of these awards this year.
Even if you don’t have any Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles, keep in mind that you can transfer points to KrisFlyer from both the Virgin Australia Velocity program and any Australian credit card rewards program. So, you might still be able to take advantage of this round-the-world award!
