American Express Membership Rewards points are already one of the most useful and valuable points currencies in Australia. That’s because you have the option to transfer your points to nine different airline frequent flyer programs (plus Qantas Frequent Flyer, if you have an Amex Platinum or Centurion card). Amex points can also be converted to Marriott Bonvoy or Hilton Honors points.
Transferring to Marriott Bonvoy opens up hotel redemptions. But the real value here is that Marriott Bonvoy points can also be transferred onwards to around 30 overseas airline frequent flyer programs that aren’t otherwise normally available to Australians. Plus, until the end of September 2022, you can get a 50% bonus on Amex Membership Rewards points transferred to Marriott Bonvoy.
This limited-time offer could be extremely valuable as it allows you to indirectly transfer Amex points to overseas airlines that could offer superior award availability and/or better award pricing than the local options!
To explain how to take full advantage, Chris Chamberlin from Point Hacks joins Matt in Episode 93 of the AFF on Air podcast.
Also in this podcast, it’s that time of year again when airlines start to release their early bird sales for international travel next year. There are some great deals available now on airfares to Europe in Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class.
