A newbie this week was having a frustrating time attempting to use points to book a reward seat on a business class flight to the US. Our point-problem solvers were on the case. They offered a myriad of tips, hints and handy tricks to our exasperated newbie!
Our members noted that when attempting to book reward seats it is important to plan ahead. One member opines that seeking reward seats more than 300 days out from the anticipated flight times is usually the best bet.
The individual’s QF status and their preferred seating can also impact upon the likelihood that a reward seat in business class will be available. Platinum members are likely to have more luck in this department!
Our members also suggest that flexibility is key. A reward seat flying Cathay Air via Hong Kong is said to have far better prospects for reward seat availability than a Qantas direct flight. Malaysian and Japan airlines may also be worthwhile investigating for our US-bound member.
Having some handy online tools can also make the hunt for reward seats less demanding. Some members recommend Expert Flyer, a service which will email you when relevant reward seats become available.
