For the next three days only, Velocity Frequent Flyer is offering an unprecedented triple status credits when you book flights with Virgin Australia!

With this offer, you could earn Velocity Gold status by taking as few as four domestic flights.

Details of the triple Velocity status credits offer

This flash promotion is only running for a short time, so you’ll need to get in fast! It’s valid for Virgin Australia flight bookings made between 27-29 May 2024, for travel between 27 May and 31 July 2024.

Virgin Australia marketed and operated flights on domestic, trans-Tasman and short-haul international routes (including Cairns-Tokyo) are eligible to earn triple status credits. Reward seats, codeshare flights operated by partner airlines, and any other flights on airlines other than Virgin Australia, are not eligible.

Before booking your flights, you must activate this offer on the Velocity Frequent Flyer website or in the Velocity smartphone app.

See the Velocity website for the full offer T&Cs.

Earning Velocity Gold and Platinum status

Velocity Gold status comes with benefits like lounge access, extra baggage, priority check-in, priority boarding and Fly Ahead on Economy Flex fares when you fly Virgin Australia. You’ll also get a selection of reciprocal status benefits on Virgin’s partner airlines.

To reach Gold, you’d need to earn 500 status credits in 12 months (and fly at least 4 eligible Virgin Australia sectors). To renew Gold status, you’d need 400 status credits + 4 sectors in the following year.

Platinum status on Virgin Australia gets you even more benefits, including free Economy X seating, four annual complimentary upgrades, free on-board Wi-Fi and access to Etihad’s First Class Lounge in Abu Dhabi. You’d need 1,000 status credits to earn Platinum or 800 to renew, plus 8 eligible sectors.

The cheapest ways to earn Gold or Platinum status

Our list of the best Virgin Australia status runs could give you some ideas of flights to book to maximise the status credits you’ll earn.

As an example, you could earn 80 status credits before triple status credits with a one-way Business Class flight from Melbourne to Gold Coast, Brisbane or Sunshine Coast. Melbourne-Gold Coast fares in Business start from $399 one-way. That means you could earn 480 status credits (with triple status credits) by booking a return Business Class ticket on this route for around $798.

But one of the best runs is from Adelaide to Canberra via Melbourne. You could earn a whopping 660 status credits in total (after triple status credits) by booking a return Business ticket for around $915. That’s more than enough to earn Velocity Gold status.

Plus, don’t forget that you might be able to use a Virgin Australia promo code to save on your airfares.

Note that you can often get a better price on Virgin Australia Business fares when booking at least 45 days in advance.

Is it worth taking advantage of Velocity’s triple status credits offer?

If you’d like to earn Velocity status, or you need more status credits to retain your existing membership tier, this is a great offer!

The main downside of an offer like this? Some existing Velocity frequent flyers, who’ve earned their status the hard way, may consider that offers like these (and Velocity’s regular status matches) make it too easy to earn status. When too many people have status, the benefits available to existing members can become diluted – just ask Delta Air Lines.

Has anyone had any luck with these kinds of offers before with it applying in retro? I booked some business class return tickets from MEL to OOL and then activated this offer probably 4 hours later because I didn't realise it was there (hadn't received an email). Anyone ever had it work for them still?

End of FY Revenue pump! I note travel is for June and July.

Numbers must be below budget if they have pulled this offer. Might push them over the line.

This is insane!

5 single flights in business class between SYD and MEL or BNE and you’ve requilified - SC wise - for platinum (still need a return eco trip to boost the sector count.

That’s $1850 for platinum.

Benefits will be even harder to use going forward.
