Jetstar Moving to Terminal 2 at Perth Airport

Qantas frequent flyers and Qantas Club members flying Jetstar from Perth Airport will effectively lose lounge access when Jetstar moves to Terminal 2 in September.

Jetstar currently uses Terminal 3 for its domestic flights at Perth Airport, sharing the terminal with Qantas. But from 2 September 2024, Jetstar will move its domestic operations in Perth to Terminal 2.

The budget airline says that this change will make it easier for its customers to connect between its domestic and international flights. Jetstar international flights in Perth depart from Terminal 1, which is just a short walk from Terminal 2.

Bali is currently Jetstar’s only international destination from Perth. But Jetstar will open a new pilot and Airbus A321neo LR aircraft base in Perth in August. It will use those planes to launch services from Perth to Singapore and Phuket from August, as well as to Bangkok from September 2024.

Terminal 2 is also more convenient for those wishing to catch the train to or from Perth Airport. However, there’s a major downside for Jetstar passengers who are eligible for Qantas lounge access – or want to connect to a Qantas flight.

Qantas will continue flying from Terminals 3 & 4… for now

Qantas announced last week that it plans to significantly expand services from Perth over the coming decade, starting with the reintroduction of Perth-Auckland and Perth-Johannesburg services from next year. The flying kangaroo will also move its operations to the new Airport Central terminal, alongside Jetstar, in around 2031.

But for now, Qantas will continue to fly out of Terminals 3 and 4 in Perth. (Terminals 3 and 4 are connected.)

If you’re familiar with the layout of Perth Airport, you’ll know that connecting between Terminals 1/2 and 3/4 in Perth is not that simple. There are no airside transfers and you need to physically leave the airport premises, taking either an airport shuttle bus or a taxi. The terminal transfer bus departs every 20-30 minutes and the trip takes around 15 minutes.

If you have a Qantas Club membership, or Qantas Gold, Platinum or Platinum One status, you could technically still use the Qantas lounges in Perth’s Terminal 4 before departing on a same-day Jetstar flight. But this just wouldn’t be practical for most people, given the distance between the two terminals.

Jetstar and Qantas domestic flights also depart from different terminals in Sydney and Melbourne, but you can walk between them. This isn’t the case in Perth.

There are no lounges in Terminal 2 of Perth Airport since the Aspire Lounge there closed. This could be something to keep in mind if you’re considering booking a Jetstar domestic flight from the Western Australian capital.

That is at least still an option! No need to be flying to be guested into the VA lounge…

There IS a train link too, albeit a bit of a walk on the T3/T4 end...

The public bus picks up right outside Qantas Arrivals and drives to the train station. About two minutes, so very quick. I’ve used it to catch the train home. However, you could also take that train to the international airport station, which is the next and final station along the line.

I received this email from Jetstar this morning:

Hi,

A reminder that from 2 September 2024, we’ll be moving from Terminal 3 (T3) to Terminal 2 (T2) for all domestic flights at Perth Airport.

Please make sure you arrive at the right terminal and give yourself enough time to catch your flight - airport check-in and bag drop strictly close 40 minutes before departure.

Where’s T2 located
T2 is in the same precinct as the Terminal 1 (T1) international terminal, making it easier to transfer between our domestic and international terminals if you've got a connecting flight.

Airport parking
If you’ve parked in a LongTerm car park in the T3/T4 precinct before 2 September 2024 and are on a return flight via T2 with us afterwards, please allow additional time to get to your car.

As T2 is in a different precinct, you’ll need to take the complimentary terminal transfer bus from T2 back to T3/T4 to collect your car. The drive takes approximately 15 minutes, and the bus runs every:

  • 20 minutes between 6 am – 10 pm
  • 30 minutes between 10 pm – 6 am

Once you arrive back at T3, you can catch the car park shuttle bus to your car.

For additional info on the terminal change and an up-to-date map of the airport, please visit Jetstar flights at Perth Airport.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Yours sincerely,

The team at Jetstar

Not sure why I got it though as the last time I travelled with JQ domestically (or at all) was in 2010. I do have a forward booking on the bogan bus from PER to DPS, so perhaps they are sending this to anyone with a forward booking to or from PER, even if international.

Today is the big day - noted 2x JQ planes parked over the 'other side' (T1/T2) yesterday and a roadside sign on Dunreath Dr near the McDonald's / DFO informing people about the change.
